Sunset

"The heft and feel of a well-worn handle;
The sight of shavings that curl from a blade;
The logs in the woodpile, the sentiment of huge
beams in an old-fashioned house;
The smell of fresh cut timber and the pungent
fragrance of burning leaves;
The crackle of kindling and the hiss of burning logs.
Abundant to all the needs of man,
how poor the world would be
Without wood."

Growing up in a 100 year old sod built farm house in Southeast Colorado and adding a straw bale/adobe addition to that same home inspired within me the joy and satisfaction of building with local, sustainable materials.

__________

During my academic study at Colorado State University, I was introduced to timber framing through a wood design course.  That experience propelled me on my quest to learn and practice the fine art and craft of traditional timber framing.   Upon graduating with a degree in Construction Management, I pursued a career as a timber framer working for various companies throughout Montana and Colorado.

__________

During a volunteer trip to the heart of the Suriname rain forest I had the unique opportunity and satisfaction of passing on my knowledge and passion of the craft to local villagers while building a structure to unite their surrounding community.  From that experience grew the desire to establish a company that would build enduring structures and pass on that same joy and passion for craftsmanship to eager clients looking for the age old beauty of a timber building.

__________

Thus began Traditional Roots Construction Inc., a company built from tradition, respect for nature, and the desire to inspire clients with the roots of our building past.
